How it all began
I have the privilege of being born and bred in Malaysia, a country with a multi-racial and multi-lingual society where all races live as one. I grew up amidst a colourful fusion of cultures which provided a wonderful diversity of expressions to enrich my life. At the age of 6, I was already conversing in 5 languages: English, Mandarin, Malay, Cantonese and Hokkien and constantly being exposed to customs, beliefs and lifestyles of different communities.
My mother enrolled me in piano classes when I was 9. At 12 years old, I went to
a concert and was most inspired by the musicians there, wishing I could perform
like them. Since then, I started learning music earnestly and have never
stopped loving it.
Having a dad who loved music and entertainment enabled me to be exposed to performance at a young age. He used to make me entertain his friends with the organ he bought for me as a birthday present. It felt great to be playing for people – to watch them enjoying it. Exhilarating!
I first set foot in London when I was 19 and immediately fell in love with the place. However, a series of events led me to return my homeland. An Audio Engineering School opened its doors in Malaysia, ensuring a huge saving in fees, yet I never lost hold of the dream to go back to London someday.
Having
to stay back in Malaysia for my studies was actually a blessing in disguise. Many
events and opportunities came into my life as a result of this. During the 1st
year in college, our class participated in a song-writing competition organised
by the The City Hall of Kuala Lumpur. Many
well-known composers and music lecturers took part in it. I was the only female
finalist, and was awarded a silver medal and won the best lyrics in the
competition.
I complete all the subjects almost a year ahead of time, and had the privilege of joining one of the best recording studios in Malaysia and the Asian region. Thus began the journey of my career.
Throughout the 11 years of my employment, my work had obtained several industry awards. Having good bosses that took notice, I was blessed with several promotions during my tenure and even had the opportunity to help establish a new marketing department which provided technical consultation for clients.
After gaining much valuable work experiences, I then left for London again to start my own business. It was very good exposure to many different facets in life.
Life is amazing !
